GivingPi

The Network

For a league
of nation builders

The importance of pi has been known for at least the last 4,000 years. We’re familiar with the use of the Greek lowercase letter, π, as the notation for pi, which is the first letter of the Greek word, ‘perimetros’, and loosely translates to ‘circumference’.

The Need

For us to Rise

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a commitment by our world leaders for a better and more sustainable future for all, to be achieved by 2030. However, at our current rate of progress and funding, we’ll only achieve these goals by 2094.

As a nation, it is crucial that we accelerate family philanthropy, to achieve our SDGs.

Currently, India has 113 billionaires and 6,884 ultra high-net-worth individuals, expected to grow to 12,000 in the next 5 years. Unlocking the philanthropic capital of this cohort would put India on a new growth trajectory, resulting in a transformed, inclusive nation.

Why family philanthropy?

  • Means to provide risk and patient capital, crucial for accelerating social impact and innovation
  • Potential to solve systemic issues, as families have the ability to take on projects with a long-term funding lens vs a short-term lens
  • Ability to fund under-resourced causes, regions and communities, which can further attract institutional funding and play a catalytic role in driving change
  • Beyond financial capital, families can leverage their social capital to shape transformational impact

Family philanthropy has the potential to
generate an additional annual investible
corpus of INR 60,000 to 100,000 crores
for the non-profit sector in India.

This is precisely why GivingPi exists. To
unleash the giving potential of families,
leading to a strengthened philanthropic
ecosystem and a new and inclusive India.
